Vibrating screen is mainly used in the mining, metallurgy, water conservancy and hydropower and chemical industries for screening, impurity removal, filtration and grading of the granular materials. Its working performance directly affects the particle size distribution and quality of the finished products. During the actual application process, it is inevitable for the customers to encounter low efficiency of the screening machine and poor quality of finished products. In order to deal with such problems, eight tips are proposed in the following.

First, blocking of sieve is the most common cause for the poor screening of the equipment. At the moment, the load of shaker should be reduced and the surface of sieve should also be cleaned in time.

Second, in case the screening materials contain too much moisture, it may easily lead to group adhesion. The following measures are recommended to solve the problem: (1) increase the inclination of the screen box; (2) use the thermal cover to destroy the surface tension of the water between the screen and the materials; (3) install a spherical plate under the screen surface to generate vibration; (4) adopt wet sieve to screen 250μm and even finer-grained materials.

Third, uneven feeding will result in accumulation and interruption of materials. Insufficient feeding greatly reduces screening efficiency, excessive feeding may cause poor screening quality or even equipment failure, the solution at this time is to ensure uniform feeding.

Fourth, if the sieve is not tightened or the drive belt is too loose, it will affect the screening efficiency and quality of finished products. In order to improve the situation, both the sieve and drive belt shall be tightened.

Fifth, if the material size is close to sieve size, the screening efficiency will decrease significantly. Since such particles tend to constrain or block the mesh, the useful screening area of the sieve is reduced; therefore, the customer is advised to select the vibrating screen with appropriate mesh size based on actual needs.

Sixth, the installation angle of vibrating screen directly affects the material angle while going through the sieve. If the angle is smaller, it will difficult for the materials with the size close to the mesh to pass. In addition, the inclination also affects the speed of material movement, the residence time on the screen surface and the percentage of particles passing through the mesh.

Seventh, most of the screening materials are particles in spherical shape so that they can pass through the meshes in all directions. The slender or plate-shaped material may not successfully pass the sieve since its cross-sectional area varies with the direction, resulting in reduced screening efficiency.

Eighth, the effective screening area of the shaker (the ratio between mesh area and the total screen area) will pose a direct impact on the screening efficiency. Therefore, in theory, in order to increase the effective screen area of a small screen, it shall be avoided to use coarse screen sieve, but the fine sieve have low capacity and will easily get worn, so the classification machine is usually used to sort the finer material particles.
